1. Experience Timanfaya National Park

Timanfaya is Lanzarote's defining landscape: volcanic cones, lava fields and rust-coloured earth shaped by historic eruptions. Standard visits include the park's controlled sightseeing route and geothermal demonstrations. Arrive early, join an organised tour or expect queues at busy times because access through the protected area is managed.

2. Follow the César Manrique trail

César Manrique's work explains much of Lanzarote's visual identity. Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Río, Jardín de Cactus and the artist's foundation combine volcanic spaces with architecture and art. Choose two or three rather than rushing every site, and group them geographically to reduce driving.

3. Taste volcanic wine in La Geria
