The Timanfaya bus tour (Volcano Route) is included in the €30 Montañas del Fuego ticket. How timed tickets, the bus, parking and guided tours from the resorts work.

Which Timanfaya ticket do you need?
Most first-time visitors mean Montañas del Fuego at Islote del Hilario when they say Timanfaya. Its official timed ticket includes access, geothermal demonstrations and the approximately 35-minute Volcano Route on the park bus. Buy through CACT Lanzarote rather than an unofficial reseller if you only need admission.
The Timanfaya bus tour: two different things
"Timanfaya bus tour" can mean two things, and mixing them up is how people pay twice. The first is the park's own bus: the Volcano Route (Ruta de los Volcanes) leaves from Islote del Hilario, runs for about 35 minutes through lava fields and craters that private cars cannot enter, and is included in your Montañas del Fuego ticket. There is no separate ticket for it, and you must stay on board for the whole route. The second is a coach excursion from the resorts: a day trip with hotel pickup that takes you to the park and usually adds El Golfo, Los Hervideros or La Geria. Those are booked separately and only some include park admission, so check that line before you pay. If you have a car, the official ticket alone is all you need; without one, a coach excursion saves you the drive and the timed-slot planning.
What Timanfaya costs in 2026
CACT sets the Montañas del Fuego prices, and the timed online ticket is the only way to buy standard admission. The official shop lists €30 for adults and €15 for children aged 7 to 12, while children up to 6 go free (checked 3 October 2026). Canary Islands residents pay €24 for adults and €12 for children, Lanzarote residents pay €2, and there are reduced rates for visitors with a recognised disability; all of these require valid documentation at the ticket office. Older articles still quote around €22 for adults: that figure is out of date. Guided day tours from the south or Playa Blanca are priced separately and may or may not include park admission, so compare inclusions before booking.
Timed entry, arrival and parking
Choose the date and entry time during checkout and arrive at the ticket office 15 minutes early. Download the QR code before leaving your accommodation because mobile coverage can be unreliable. Ticket-holder parking is included, but the drive from the entrance to Islote del Hilario remains part of a protected landscape: do not stop or leave the vehicle.
Best time to visit and how to beat the crowds
The first morning slots (usually from around 9:30) tend to be quieter and cooler, which matters in summer because the volcanic surface holds heat. Allow 75–90 minutes for the full visit, then continue to El Golfo's green lagoon and Los Hervideros when driving yourself. In winter, finish inland visits before the early sunset; the park roads are dark apart from the car parks.
Self-drive or guided tour?
Self-driving gives you flexibility to combine Timanfaya with El Golfo and La Geria, but the official Volcano Route itself still takes place on the park bus. A guided day tour is useful without a car, when you want hotel pickup, or when you prefer one booking for several south-west sights. Check whether park admission is explicitly included before paying.
What the visit does not include
The standard visit is not a free hike through the crater landscape, and passengers cannot get off the bus during the Volcano Route. Separate walking activities operate under different access rules: the free Tremesana route is guided by park staff in small groups, for over-16s only, and is best booked 25–30 days ahead. Stay within marked visitor areas, follow staff instructions around geothermal demonstrations and never cross barriers for photographs.

Can you buy Timanfaya tickets at the entrance?
No. CACT states that Montañas del Fuego tickets must be purchased online before arrival for a selected date and time.
Is the Timanfaya bus tour included in the ticket?
Yes. The Volcano Route bus ride of about 35 minutes is included in the Montañas del Fuego ticket (€30 for adults, €15 for children aged 7–12). There is no separate bus ticket. Coach excursions from the resorts are a different product, booked separately.
Can you get off the bus on the Timanfaya Volcano Route?
No. Passengers must stay on board for the whole route, which crosses a protected area closed to walkers and private cars.
Can you drive your own car through the Volcano Route?
No. You drive to the visitor parking, but the protected Volcano Route is completed on the park bus included with admission.
How long should you allow for Timanfaya?
Allow at least 75–90 minutes for validation, geothermal demonstrations and the bus route, plus extra time for traffic and any restaurant stop.
