Fuerteventura base guide

Stay in Morro Jable

The southernmost resort: a broad beach, a real town and the way to Cofete

The honest verdict

Morro Jable is the base for the far south: a wide beach with town services, a harbour and an old fishing quarter that still feels like a Canarian coastal town. Cofete and the Jandía peninsula are within reach, and the ferry to Gran Canaria leaves from its port. The trade-off is distance: the north is a long, planned day, not a spontaneous drive.

Choose the right part of Morro Jable

The resort name on a booking site can cover very different walking distances and evening atmospheres. Match the neighbourhood before comparing hotels.

01

Old town and harbour

The fishing quarter, harbour restaurants, ferries and evenings on foot.

02

Beachfront

Stays along the wide beach and promenade, with town services close by.

03

Hotel strip to the east

Larger resort hotels towards Costa Calma, quieter and more spread out.

Transport reality

Airport arrival

Fuerteventura Airport is roughly an hour and a quarter away by road. TIADHE lines 01 and 10 run between Puerto del Rosario and Morro Jable; a transfer or rental car is simpler with luggage or a late flight.

Without a car

One of the better southern bases without a car: the beach, promenade, harbour and restaurants are in town, line 111 runs to Cofete and Punta de Jandía, and line 05 links Costa Calma.

With a car

Useful for Sotavento, the centre and flexible beach days. For Cofete, a normal rental car on the dirt track is a contract question as much as a driving one: check the terms, or take line 111 or an authorised tour.

When the beach plan fails

Keep these alternatives ready

  • →The harbour and old fishing quarter when the beach is too windy
  • →Cofete only after checking wind, swell and the track conditions
  • →Oasis Park on the drive towards Costa Calma
  • →Check flags: wide beaches are not always calm water

Eat beyond the hotel

The local-food move

Fish by the harbour and in the old fishing quarter is the local-food move. For Majorero cheese and goat dishes, plan a central-island lunch on the way to Betancuria.

Frequently asked questions

Is Morro Jable a good place to stay in Fuerteventura?

Yes for the far south: a wide beach, a real town with services and the easiest access to Cofete. It is a poor base for regular trips to the north or a short airport transfer.

How do you get from Morro Jable to Cofete?

TIADHE line 111 runs from Morro Jable to Cofete and Punta de Jandía, and authorised tours use the same dirt track. If you drive yourself, check your rental contract first.

Can you take a ferry from Morro Jable to Gran Canaria?

Yes. The crossing from Morro Jable's port takes about two hours; check current sailings before building it into a short holiday.
