Tenerife base guide

Stay in Costa Adeje

The easiest full-service base in sunny south Tenerife

The honest verdict

Costa Adeje is the safest first-time choice when winter sun, swimmable resort beaches, boat trips and easy logistics matter more than historic atmosphere. It is convenient, polished and expensive by Tenerife standards; the greener north feels like a separate journey.

Choose the right part of Costa Adeje

The resort name on a booking site can cover very different walking distances and evening atmospheres. Match the neighbourhood before comparing hotels.

01

La Caleta

Quieter evenings, good restaurants and a more grown-up coastal feel.

02

Fañabé

The balanced family choice: beach, promenade and plenty of services.

03

Torviscas / Puerto Colón

Best for boat departures, water activities and a central no-car stay.

04

San Eugenio

Convenient for Siam Park and nightlife, but hill position varies sharply.

Picked your part of Costa Adeje? Check stays for your dates

The search opens on Costa Adeje. Add your dates, then check the map: whether a property sits in La Caleta, Fañabé, Torviscas / Puerto Colón or San Eugenio changes your walk to the beach and restaurants more than its star rating does.

Transport reality

Airport arrival

Tenerife South (TFS) is the practical arrival airport. Allow roughly 20–30 minutes by road in normal traffic. TITSA lines 111 (from Santa Cruz via the airport junction) and 343 (from Puerto de la Cruz via both airports) end at the Costa Adeje bus station; taxis and pre-booked transfers serve the whole resort corridor.

Without a car

Very workable. Beaches, restaurants and Puerto Colón are walkable from the central zones, and organised trips cover Teide and other island highlights. Check your hotel's exact position because the resort climbs steeply inland.

With a car

Useful for two or more independent island days. A car unlocks Adeje old town, mountain villages and the north, but hotel parking can be the deciding factor—confirm it before booking the vehicle.

What genuinely fits from here

Puerto Colón

In the resort

Main departure point for whale and dolphin trips.

Adeje old town

Short local journey

Historic streets and a better sense of the municipality beyond the coast.

Teide National Park

Half or full day

The essential volcanic landscape; bus line 342 also runs from Costa Adeje.

Los Gigantes

Half day

Cliff scenery and a natural west-coast pairing.

When the beach plan fails

Keep these alternatives ready

  • →Siam Park or another pre-booked attraction
  • →Adeje old town and a long Canarian lunch
  • →Move along the coast: showers can be highly local
  • →Use a cloudy coastal day for Teide only after checking mountain conditions

Eat beyond the hotel

The local-food move

The waterfront is convenient but not the whole food story. La Caleta is the most useful nearby dining area; for traditional cooking, look inland to Adeje town or plan a dedicated guachinche afternoon in the north.

Frequently asked questions

Is Costa Adeje good without a car?

Yes. Central Costa Adeje is one of Tenerife's easiest no-car bases because beaches, restaurants and boat departures are close together and major excursions offer southern pickup. Check whether your hotel sits high above the coast.

Which part of Costa Adeje is best for families?

Fañabé is the most balanced starting point for a family: a serviced beach, broad promenade and plentiful restaurants. La Caleta is quieter; Puerto Colón is more activity-focused.

Is Costa Adeje close to Mount Teide?

It is a practical southern starting point, but Teide is still a mountain day rather than a quick stop. Drive or use an organised tour, and check permits and conditions before leaving.
