Stay in Costa Calma

Long southern beaches and the Sotavento wind, one step short of Jandía

The honest verdict

Costa Calma is the beach-first southern base: long sand, the Sotavento beaches next door and some of the island's most popular windsurf and kite conditions. It is a resort rather than a town, and the wind is part of every day. Choose it when the holiday is essentially the beach; choose Caleta de Fuste or Corralejo if you want the north to stay an easy option.

Choose the right part of Costa Calma

The resort name on a booking site can cover very different walking distances and evening atmospheres. Match the neighbourhood before comparing hotels.

01

Central Costa Calma

Shops, restaurants and the main beach within walking distance.

02

Beachfront hotels

The resort stays on the sand, quieter in the evening and dependent on the hotel for food.

03

Towards Sotavento, to the south

Closest to the long Sotavento beaches and the kite and windsurf schools, more spread out.

Transport reality

Airport arrival

Fuerteventura Airport is roughly an hour away by road. TIADHE lines 01 and 10 run between Puerto del Rosario and Morro Jable along this coast, and line 05 links Costa Calma with Morro Jable; check the stop nearest your hotel. A transfer or rental car is simpler with luggage.

Without a car

Workable for a beach week: the town beaches and Sotavento are close, and line 05 reaches Morro Jable for its harbour and the line 111 to Cofete. The centre and the north need a car or tours.

With a car

Useful for Sotavento's quieter stretches, Morro Jable and a central-island day. For Cofete, check whether your rental contract allows the dirt track, or take line 111 or an authorised tour instead.

When the beach plan fails

Keep these alternatives ready

  • →The wind is the point here: let the kite and windsurf schools decide each day
  • →Morro Jable's harbour and old quarter when the beach is too blustery
  • →Oasis Park for a day off the sand
  • →Tidal lagoons change with the tide: check conditions and flags before swimming

Eat beyond the hotel

The local-food move

Costa Calma's restaurants cover easy resort evenings. For fish by the water, go to Morro Jable's harbour; for Majorero cheese and goat dishes, plan a central-island lunch.

Frequently asked questions

Is Costa Calma a good place to stay in Fuerteventura?

Yes if the holiday is about long beaches, wind sports and quiet evenings. It is less suited to nightlife or frequent trips to the north, which becomes one planned day from here.

Is Costa Calma windy?

Often, and that is why windsurfers and kitesurfers come. Some days are calm, but plan beach time around the forecast rather than expecting shelter.

Can you get from Costa Calma to Cofete without driving?

Yes. Take TIADHE line 05 to Morro Jable and line 111 to Cofete, or book an authorised tour. Check current timetables before planning the day.
