Fuerteventura base guide
The liveliest base for dunes, Lobos and Fuerteventura's north
The honest verdict
Corralejo is the best all-round northern base for restaurants, boat trips, nightlife and access to Lobos and the dunes. It is a poor choice for repeated trips to Cofete or Jandía: Fuerteventura is long, and the map understates how much holiday a north-to-south drive consumes.
The resort name on a booking site can cover very different walking distances and evening atmospheres. Match the neighbourhood before comparing hotels.
01
Best for restaurants, ferries, evening atmosphere and living without a car.
02
Balanced access to shops, nightlife and the town beaches.
03
Quieter and residential-feeling, with rougher shoreline rather than classic sand.
04
Best for dunes and resort beaches, less connected to old-town evenings on foot.
The search opens on Corralejo. Add your dates, then check the map: whether a property sits in Old town and harbour, Central Corralejo, Bristol / north-west edge or Grandes Playas side changes your walk to the beach and restaurants more than its star rating does.

Fuerteventura Airport is south of Puerto del Rosario, roughly 40 minutes away by road. TIADHE line 06 runs between Puerto del Rosario and Corralejo; a transfer or rental car is easier for late flights, surf equipment and families.
Possible for Corralejo, Lobos, the harbour and selected north-coast outings. The Grandes Playas are outside the compact old town, so check your accommodation against the beach you imagine using.
Recommended for El Cotillo, Calderón Hondo, Betancuria and beach flexibility. Do not treat a rental as permission to drive off-road: insurance and protected-land rules still apply.

When the beach plan fails
Eat beyond the hotel
The old harbour is the natural place to look for fish and an evening on foot. Add Majorero cheese and goat dishes inland around La Oliva, Lajares or Betancuria rather than expecting the resort strip to represent the whole island.

It is the strongest choice for a lively northern stay, Lobos, dunes and restaurant choice. Choose the south instead when Cofete, Jandía or Sotavento dominate the itinerary.
Yes for the town, harbour, Lobos and a limited northern holiday. A car materially improves access to El Cotillo, volcanic walks and the island interior.
Yes, ferries cross to Playa Blanca. Treat it as a planned day with sailing times checked in advance, not as an effortless addition to a crowded itinerary.
