Stay in Puerto de Mogán

The prettiest harbour on the island, with a small sheltered beach

The honest verdict

Puerto de Mogán is the quiet, pretty base: a small sheltered beach, a working fishing and leisure harbour, and white-walled lanes and canals that make every evening a pleasure. It sits at the western end of the resort coast, so Las Palmas and the north are long trips and nightlife is limited. Choose it for calm days, families and boat trips, not for a busy resort strip.

Choose the right part of Puerto de Mogán

The resort name on a booking site can cover very different walking distances and evening atmospheres. Match the neighbourhood before comparing hotels.

01

Harbour and canals

The pretty core: restaurants, boat departures and evening walks.

02

Beach side

Closest to the small sheltered beach, the easy choice with small children.

03

Towards the valley, inland

Quieter stays further from the water, a walk from the harbour.

Transport reality

Airport arrival

Gran Canaria Airport is on the east coast, a long drive along the southern motorway. A transfer or rental car is the practical arrival. By bus, Global line 1 stops at the airport on its way from Las Palmas to Puerto de Mogán, and lines 32 and 33 run from Playa del Inglés.

Without a car

Good for a slow stay: the beach, the harbour and the restaurants are all on foot. Global lines 32 and 33 reach Puerto Rico and Playa del Inglés, and lines 1 and 91 go to Las Palmas.

With a car

Useful for the Mogán valley and village inland, the west coast and the mountains. Check your accommodation's parking before booking a car.

When the beach plan fails

Keep these alternatives ready

  • →The harbour and lanes when the beach is too windy
  • →Mogán village and the valley inland
  • →The Maspalomas dunes if the south-west is cloudier than the east
  • →Check flags: sheltered is not the same as always calm

Eat beyond the hotel

The local-food move

Fish from the harbour is the obvious local move. For a change from the resort menus, have lunch in Mogán village inland or plan a market morning on Friday.
