Stay in Maspalomas

Reliable southern sun with several very different resort districts

The honest verdict

Maspalomas is the practical southern base for dependable beach weather, resort facilities and the dunes. The name often covers districts with completely different moods, so choosing the right one matters more than choosing the resort itself. Mountain and north-island days are rewarding but not short.

Choose the right part of Maspalomas

The resort name on a booking site can cover very different walking distances and evening atmospheres. Match the neighbourhood before comparing hotels.

01

Meloneras

Polished promenade, quieter upscale evenings and easy lighthouse access.

02

Campo Internacional

Low-density, greener and calm; distances often favour taxis or a car.

03

Playa del Inglés

Most nightlife and services, with a busier urban-resort feel.

04

San Agustín

Quieter eastern beaches and relaxed evenings away from the main nightlife.

Transport reality

Airport arrival

Gran Canaria Airport sits on the east coast. Global line 66 runs from the airport to Faro de Maspalomas; confirm the stop nearest your accommodation because the resort area is broad.

Without a car

Good for a beach-led stay. Global lines 32 and 33 run from Playa del Inglés to Puerto de Mogán, lines 5, 30 and 50 to Las Palmas, and organised trips handle the mountain interior. Walking between districts can be longer than the map suggests.

With a car

Useful for mountain villages, the west coast and flexible beach-hopping. The roads are straightforward until the interior becomes steep and winding; plan fewer kilometres than on the motorway coast.

When the beach plan fails

Keep these alternatives ready

  • →Vegueta and museums in Las Palmas if forecasts differ
  • →A long lunch in an inland town
  • →Palmitos Park or another planned attraction
  • →Use strong coastal wind for an interior day, but check mountain cloud separately

Eat beyond the hotel

The local-food move

The resort has every cuisine, but local depth improves inland. San Fernando offers more everyday dining than the seafront; Agüimes, Santa Lucía or a mountain village can anchor a traditional lunch on an excursion day.

Frequently asked questions

Is Maspalomas the same as Playa del Inglés?

They belong to the same broad southern resort area but feel different. Playa del Inglés is denser and livelier; Meloneras is more polished; Campo Internacional is quieter and spread out.

Do you need a car in Maspalomas?

No for a beach holiday and occasional organised trips. A car becomes useful for mountain villages, the west coast and a flexible island itinerary.

Is Maspalomas a good base for Las Palmas?

It works for a day trip, but not as the best base for repeated city visits. If city life and the north dominate your plans, split the stay or sleep in Las Palmas.
