Santa Cruz and Los Cancajos
Santa Cruz is the capital with the island's proper streets — historic quarters, restaurants that serve locals, and the ferry out of the front door. Los Cancajos, a few kilometres away, trades all that for the island's most convenient beach and a transfer so short you will still be adjusting to the flight. Both suit the east, meaning the western attractions are a crossing of the island every time.
Los Llanos, El Paso and Tazacorte
The west is where the sun lives, and where the walking plans gather. Los Llanos offers proper services, El Paso sits at the Caldera's doorstep with park information, and Tazacorte brings the coast: sunsets from the promenade, bananas growing on the hillside above town. Choose among them by whether the week is hiking-shaped, beach-shaped or simply coffee-shaped — they are all close enough to share the same west-side itinerary.
North and rural stays
Puntagorda, Garafía and Barlovento are slow-travel territory: green roads, almond trees, and evenings that close early. The thrill of a rural stay is waking where the island actually lives; the cost is organising the drive to everything else.
