Rental car: freedom with mountain-road trade-offs
A car makes north-coast villages, viewpoints and multi-stop days easier. Compare excess, deposit, card requirements and airport pickup, then allow more time than distance suggests for steep or winding roads. Never assume an unpaved track is permitted by the rental agreement.
TITSA buses and the metropolitan tram
TITSA operates the island's interurban guaguas, while the tram is useful between Santa Cruz and La Laguna. Buses work well for direct resort, airport and city journeys; several rural stops in one day are less practical. Check the official journey planner immediately before travel.
Airports, taxis and transfers
TFS is closest to the southern resorts; TFN is closer to La Laguna, Santa Cruz and much of the north. Confirm the airport code on every booking. Official taxi ranks offer metered journeys, while a pre-booked transfer provides a known meeting process for late arrivals or groups.
Tours for difficult sightseeing days
A guided excursion can simplify Teide, Masca or a long island loop by removing parking and designated-driver concerns. Compare pickup area, exact stops and walking demands, and do not assume a tour includes a summit permit or cable-car ticket unless stated.
