Where to Stay in Tenerife: Best Areas in 2026

The complete guide to Tenerife's towns and resorts — south vs north, family hotels, nightlife and quiet escapes.

9 min read

South: Costa Adeje & Los Cristianos

The south is where most visitors stay — reliable sunshine, resort hotels and the best beaches. Costa Adeje is upmarket with designer hotels and fine dining. Los Cristianos is more traditional and family-friendly. Both have easy access to whale watching and Teide tours.

North: Puerto de la Cruz & La Orotava

The north is greener, cooler and more authentic. Puerto de la Cruz has the island's best botanical gardens and a charming old town. La Orotava offers mountain views and historic architecture. Perfect for hikers and anyone wanting the real Tenerife.

Getting around from your base

A rental car opens up the whole island no matter where you stay. Match the booking to the airport on your ticket: Tenerife South (TFS) suits most southern-resort arrivals, while Tenerife North (TFN) is closer to La Laguna and many northern stays. Compare the deposit, payment-card requirement and pickup location as carefully as the daily rate. If you are not driving, compare line 40 from TFS with the official taxi rank and a pre-booked transfer.
