🚗 Fuerteventura Car Rental: FUE vs Resort Pickup (2026)

Fuerteventura is long and its beaches and resorts are spread between the north and south. Airport pickup works well when you want a car for the entire holiday, while collecting in Corralejo or Costa Calma can reduce the rental period if you only plan a few independent sightseeing days.

Airport rental or resort collection?

FUE pickup removes the need for a separate arrival transfer and suits a trip covering both ends of the island. A shorter Corralejo or Costa Calma rental can cost less when several days will be spent near the resort. Compare the complete cost of airport transport plus a short rental against keeping the car throughout.

Compare the total, deposit and payment card

Search with the same dates, driver age and vehicle class, then inspect what is payable online and at collection. Check the security deposit, accepted card type, insurance excess, extras and any after-hours fee. The main driver commonly needs a qualifying card with sufficient available funds.

Terminal desk, meeting point or shuttle at FUE

Not every Fuerteventura Airport offer uses the same collection method. Some have an airport desk, while others provide a meeting point or shuttle to a nearby office. Read the instructions, opening hours and flight-delay policy before choosing; the cheapest offer may require more collection time.

Insurance and protection

Platform protection and the supplier's rental conditions are separate. Extra protection does not automatically remove the supplier's deposit, card requirement or exclusions. Read both sets of terms and understand the procedure for documenting damage and making a claim.

Choose for luggage and surf equipment

Select realistic space for every passenger, suitcase and declared surfboard rather than relying only on the advertised vehicle class. Do not assume a normal rental permits unpaved tracks. Iconic places such as Cofete involve rough access, so check written supplier restrictions and use a suitable organised excursion when the contract excludes that road.

Distances, fuel and mileage

Driving between Corralejo and the southern resorts can take a substantial part of the day. Plan fuel stops, check the offer's mileage and fuel policy, and leave enough time for return inspection and refuelling. A low daily rate is less useful if the vehicle, mileage or pickup location does not fit the itinerary.

Ferry travel to Lanzarote

Ferries operate from Corralejo to Lanzarote, but a rental car is not automatically permitted to travel between islands. Obtain written supplier approval and confirm insurance coverage and any additional fee before taking a vehicle on a ferry.

Booking and collection checklist

Verify the supplier score, pickup location, deposit, card, luggage capacity, fuel policy, mileage and cancellation terms. At collection, photograph every side of the car and record existing damage before leaving. Keep the agreement, condition report and final fuel receipt until the deposit is released.

Fuerteventura car rental FAQ

Is it better to rent at Fuerteventura Airport or in Corralejo?

FUE is usually more convenient for a full-trip rental and removes a separate airport transfer. Corralejo collection can be better value when you only need a car for selected days after reaching the resort.

Can I rent a car in Corralejo?

Yes. DiscoverCars lists downtown Corralejo offers. Compare the exact office, opening hours and rental duration with FUE pickup before booking.

Can I rent a car in Costa Calma?

Yes. DiscoverCars lists downtown Costa Calma offers. Confirm the pickup point and return time because the southern resorts cover a broad area.

Can I drive a rental car to Cofete?

Only when the supplier's written conditions permit the route and vehicle use. Standard rentals often restrict unpaved roads, which may affect insurance or roadside assistance, so an organised 4x4 excursion can be the safer contractual choice.

Can I take a Fuerteventura rental car to Lanzarote?

Only if the supplier explicitly permits ferry and inter-island travel. Confirm written permission, insurance coverage and any fee before booking.
